The Garden City Bird Sanctuary is most grateful to the volunteers from Liberty Mutual who worked at the site on May 5 through May 8.   Each day, a new crew of approximately 15-20 people worked from 9 AM until 1 PM. They accomplished a great deal.  They prepared the ground for installation of a storage shed.  Sod was dug out and a hole prepared into which the concrete for the shed base could be poured.  Digging out and removing the sod was hard work indeed!   Another task was planting 9 trees between the outer trail and the fence that separates GCBS from the Long Island Railroad.   Substantial holes were dug for the trees, which were also properly mulched and watered    They also planted bushes for landscaping around one of the new chimney swift towers. The photos for May 5 show the volunteer crew members who removed the sod, planted trees and did landscaping on Monday, May 5.

The Liberty Mutual crew that worked on May 6 continued to remove sod and dirt from the shed installation area, planted trees and installed bushes for landscaping at the base of one of the chimney swift towers.
