The Garden City Bird Sanctuary is most grateful to the volunteers from Liberty Mutual who worked at the site onMay 5 through May 8. Each day, a new crew of approximately 15-20 people worked from9 AM until 1 PM. They accomplished a great deal. They prepared the ground for installation of a storage shed. Sod was dug out and a hole prepared into which the concrete for the shed basecouldbe poured. Digging out and removing the sod was hard work indeed! Another task was planting 9 trees between the outer trail and the fence that separates GCBS from the Long Island Railroad. Substantial holes were dug for the trees, which were also properly mulched and watered They also planted bushes for landscaping around one of the new chimney swift towers. The photos forMay 5show the volunteer crew members who removed the sod, planted trees and did landscaping onMonday, May 5.
